We Are One

EarBuzz.com Review: The versatile singer/songwriter/guitarist, Jamie Palumbo, takes a rock and roll road for the 12-track CD, "We Are One". The opening and title track is inspired by the universal 'truth that's out there somewhere, we can figure it out, holding hands with mother earth, feel the shining sun, holding hands with the man on the moon, the universe is one, we are one'. The tune, a fitting opening song, employs an old-school barre chord riff in the spirit of 70s rock that grew out of the love generation. Track 7, "Move On, Move Up, Move Out", is our favorite on the CD. Palumbo opens with a lyrical and edgy musical phrase that has hints of Deringer and Frampton in what could be an anthem. His guitar work on the track is lyrical and fluid. Palumbo ambitiously drives "Through it All" in track 11 and the harmonic-minor and altered chord choices and arrangement make it the most progressive we've heard from the L.A. musician and there's a taste of some of the 80's BOC. The final track is a cover of A3's theme from the Soprano's. Palumbo tackles the smooth groover and turns it into a straight 2/4 guitar-focused rocker - and vocals up an octave. Palumbo takes a guitar break that is wammy-lovin' and melodic as he rips up the last two minutes of the track, ending in what could be called. a guitargasm. From classical guitar to pop, to folk and now a full blown rock effort with this latest CD, Palumbo has traveled, and will continue to travel, a renaissance musical road. "We are One" stops in several prime rock locations, but lands in New Jersey.

His Masters Guitar

EarBuzz.com Review: Jamie Palumbo's CD, "His Master's Guitar", returns the artist to his love of classical guitar in this solo 9-track collection of original compositions. Palumbo's music is maturing with the artist as we hear deeper movements of tension and resolution in the musical choices he's made in writing. There is a gentle purposeful momentum between the tracks and during that treats the listener to a journey of music rather than a collection of very individual tracks. Track 1, "Traveling", throws around minor 2nd extensions to Palumbo's arpeggios around his mostly in-the-pocket progression - adding hints of dissonance to an otherwise new-ageish nylon string piece. "The Solace System" is a soothing and well-performed piece of guitar love - our favorite on the CD. Palumbo takes his time, and seems to have been in the right space during recording to reveal an intimate and nurturing performance on this track in-particular. "Paola's Harp" is a fantasy major-keyed fair-tale of a tune - beautiful and hopeful. The final track, "Above the Alps", is a pedaled chord exercise with a mountain climbing vibe that smiles. Interesting on the CD how Palumbo saved, for us, the best tracks for the end of the CD. We look forward to hearing more like this - great direction and evolving talent in both performance and artistic composition. Palumbo has provided some compelling guitar pieces in the universal library of guitar works.

Distant Star

EarBuzz.com Review: Distant Star is Jamie Palumbo's rock and roll roots exploration that takes him from cover disco (KC's Get Down Tonight) to Beatle-esque song craft pieces dedicated to newscaster (Ashleigh Banfield tease). All of this wrapped around the core foundation of this accomplished guitarist's talent. Each song has inventive guitar passages - whether solos or introductions - any all points in between. Palumbo even takes on Mozart's 40th symphony in a surf/punk/rock attitude. Our favorite tune here is the long mp3 song, "Ashleigh Banfield" - great stuff and tuned-in (pun intended) songwriting. The title track, "Distant Star", introduces us to the tenor tinged rock voice of Palumbo - he sings his heart out with sincerity on the entire record and at times we're reminded of John Lennon in his timbre. "Monique", track 3 is another solidly written tune - the production is professional and crystal clear (done at Cazador studios in Hollywood - check 'em out at jimmyhunter.com), and the chorus harmonies are gorgeous. In "Moneyland", Palumbo wonders 'why the nice guys fall by the way side . .in Moneyland' as he paints a picture of the business music world in the Southland. Jamie has an interesting vibrato - heard in the clip to "Let it Go" - it's full of kinetic energy and slightly chaotic cool. The CD is a stark contrast to his solo classical album below - exhibiting his diverse musical abilities and tastes.
